MATTADOR AWARD COMPETITION

Tenders are called for the 2011/2012 MATTADOR Award, third edition. The Award is directed to screenwriters, and more generally to anybody who wishes to write screenplays. The award is particularly aimed at promoting young writers under 23 years of age and is dedicated to an eclectic and talented young man from Trieste. Before his premature death, on June 28, 2009, Matteo Caenazzo’s future as a screenwriter was taking shape, fuelled by his great care and deep enthusiasm.
Inspired by Matteo’s life philosophy as a sharp observer of today’s reality, by his ironic, synthetic, dry and cutting poetics expressed though a free spirit, both in his way of life and his artistic trajectory, the Competition seeks new, beautiful movie stories, with the intention of supporting young talents who choose movie screenwriting as their professional and artistic path, and helping them to emerge and show their true value. The goal of the Competition is to create a selected group of projects and authors who succeed in telling captivating stories where a solid artistic foundation meets the ability to communicate with the audience.
The Competition includes two different sections: a story competition for young writers between 16 and 23 years of age and a screenplay competition for writers between 16 and 30 years of age. Awards include monetary prizes and an innovative education scholarship: tutoring. A new section called CORTO86 and dedicated to short films was launched in this second edition: the winner will be rewarded with the production of a short film taken from his/her script.
No participation fee is required.
Works can be submitted until April 15, 2012, together with the application to participate.
The Awards will be selected by a panel of professionals in the fields of cinema and culture, and presented on July 17, 2012.
